MEET JOCASTA

JoCasta Zamarripa is a lifelong Milwaukeean, a proud daughter of the city’s south side, and a dedicated public servant who’s never stopped fighting for working people. Born and raised in the very neighborhoods she now represents, JoCasta has spent her life pushing for progress that reflects the realities of everyday Wisconsinites.

She made history as the first Latina and first openly bi member of both the Wisconsin State Legislature and the Milwaukee Common Council. But JoCasta’s leadership is defined by more than her historic firsts—it's grounded in results. She served ten years in the State Assembly and is now in her second term as Alderperson for Milwaukee’s 8th District, where she’s led major efforts on affordable housing, small business licensing reform, and community development.

In 2025, she was the lead sponsor of the Housing Element Plan, a key step in addressing Milwaukee’s housing crisis by expanding affordable options and preventing displacement. Her approach is practical and persistent—building coalitions, navigating political challenges, and staying rooted in the neighborhoods she serves.

Now, JoCasta is running as a Democrat for Wisconsin Secretary of State to use the platform to fight for what matters: more funding for our schools so families aren’t forced into referenda every election, real housing relief for working people, and affordable child care that lets parents breathe.

With deep legislative experience, strong community ties, and a clear vision for a better Wisconsin, JoCasta is ready to bring a new kind of leadership to one of the state’s six constitutional offices. She knows the office may not come with sweeping powers—but she’s never waited around for permission to get things done. She’ll use her voice to stand up for working families and help shape the conversation about where our state goes next.

Join us in building a better Wisconsin for all of us.
